Tour of Poland, Bielsk Podlaski-Lublin
Another long 230 kilometers on the schedule for today. We could see a repeat of the past two days as well. It’s flat again, so a field sprint should decide the finish. We are, however, going to change our tactics a bit. The past two days we have done most of the work and the two teams that have won so far have not done any work. So we are going to play the waiting game a bit and sit back and watch the other teams and let them do some chasing. It should be interesting as every team here seems to always look to us to do everything. With that confusion, it could open the door for a break to succeed and stay away until the finish. I still have a good feeling at some point today I’ll be called to the front to do some tempo. I actually like riding the front. It is my job afterall, and the day goes by so much faster. Here it is especially nice since I get to pick my line and dodge the thousands of potholes that line the road. The only downside of being on the front at this race is that the camera motorcycle’s signal to the helicopter above is so strong that everytime I pull on the front my wireless SRM cuts out. Not that its a huge deal, but after a hard day its nice to confirm that with some big numbers on the SRM.
Racing doesn’t much more boring than today. The break went far too early so we had over 200 kilometers to go when the break hit its maxium time advantage of six minutes. Word spread quick that we would not control the race today. Teams didn’t hesitate at all the throw guys on the front and manage the gap. All of this combined to make a very boring today. I talked to everyone I knew in the bunch, I mean everyone. And I’m not even a talker. I am already not looking forward to adding another 15 kilometers tomorrow for more of the same.
