Tour of Ireland, Dublin to Waterford

We had an awesome start to the day today. An very nice breakfast, which we later figured out would have cost us €175 each had we have been a paying customer at the Ritz! The actual start to the race was right outside the lobby, it doesn’t get any better than that. Bernie, my roommate for the week, and I were joking about going to sign-in in our bathrobes and slippers.
Once the race got going it brought back memoires of racing in the US. Constance attacks and no control over the bunch. One poor guy finally was given a nice gap and the rest of us rode an easy tempo behind for a long while. When there is only one person up the road you end up going really slow at times because you do not want to bring him back too early. It can make for a boring day, but the sun was shining so I was enjoying every minute of it.  Finally, Saxo Bank was tired of going slow and dicided to go really fast up the last climb, 40k from the finish. So fast that only 20 of us were left at the front!  Their efforts split the field to pieces and set the stage for the GC to be played out between that group of 20. Despite some bad legs today, I was able to hang in there and make that group. I hope to come around this weekend and have a good run for the overall.
