Giro di Lombardia
I can’t think of any other race throughout the year that could motivate me so much so late in the season other than the Giro di Lombardia. Last year I had the best result of my short career at this race and I was hoping to go even better than that in this edition. I was better prepared both mentally and physically and was more confident than ever before. The day just didn’t go that well. I felt good, I just lacked that extra gear and was unable to follow the accelerations. I have noticed that I have been lacking that extra something since Ireland really. Maybe it just comes with the long season of racing I have done.Regardless of the result I am just as satisfied as if I had been on the podium. Lombardia is one of those races I am just happy to be a part of. Riding around Lake Como at this time of the year, with the leaves changing, is something you can’t even put into words. And the feeling of coming over the Ghisallo in the lead group with the Madonna del Ghisallo chapel’s bells ringing and the crowd screaming is something I will never forget. I really do not think I could design a better race if I was given the chance.
Now it is time to rest they body and mind and recharge everything for a great 2010 season. The road bike will collect some dust as I hit the mountain bike trails and the tennis courts for a few weeks. I am sure this time will go by faster than ever, I will just try to make the best of it.
