About
Who is Craig Lewis? To many he’s best-known for his near-fatal crash in the time trial of the 2004 Tour de Georgia. A car pulled out in front of him and the resulting crash left him with two punctured lungs and 47 broken bones. But only 2 years later he won a pair of US National Championship road titles. In 2007 he joined the #1 ranked team on the ProTour, Team Columbia-HTC, and he’s steadily increased his profile in the professional peloton ever since.
He’s excelled as a domestique for teammates like Mark Cavendish, George Hincapie, and Kim Kirchen. And his lofty results in races like Paris-Nice, the Dauphiné Libéré, the Tour de l’Avenir, and Tour of Ireland show his competitiveness amongst the world’s best stage racers. In late 2008 he had a breakthrough one-day performance by finishing 11th in Italy’s prestigious Tour of Lombardy. Then his firstever ProTour victory came in Stage 3 of the 2009 Tour of Romandie, confirming his status as an emerging star.
